Three ways to work
through your paperwork

Plain-language workshops and an ongoing review programme — designed for Malaysian households preparing for retirement.

Back to Home

How we approach each session

Every session at Sundial Lane is built around a simple idea: people understand their own documents better when someone takes the time to walk through them in plain language. We do not give legal or financial advice. We help households make sense of the paperwork they already have — and organise it in a way that is easy to return to later.

All sessions are available at our Bangsar premises or, for the document review programme, at the household's home. Every attendee leaves with printed materials they can use independently.

Our working approach

Listen First

Each session opens with a short conversation about where a household currently stands — what records they have, what feels confusing, and what they are hoping to understand. We shape the session around what actually matters to the people in the room.

Explain Clearly

We use plain language throughout — no jargon, no assumptions about prior knowledge. When a document needs context, we give that context directly and at a pace that suits the room.

Organise Practically

Every session ends with something tangible — a checklist, a workbook, or a reviewed folder. We want households to leave with a system they can actually maintain on their own.

Session 1

Retirement Records Walkthrough Workshop

RM 490 per participant Half-day

An information session for adults approaching retirement age in Malaysia who want to understand what records they should have organised for themselves and their families. The workshop walks through the main categories of paperwork — EPF and KWSP statements, tax filing records, employer correspondence, pension statements, and identity documents — and explains what each is for in plain language.

This is not a financial advisory session. It is an educational walkthrough of the documents the average household already holds. Group sessions run for a half day; private one-on-one walkthroughs are available on request.

What attendees work through

  • Understanding EPF and KWSP statements — what each section means and how to read annual summaries
  • What tax filing records are worth keeping and for how long
  • Reviewing employer correspondence, pension statements, and confirmation letters
  • Identity document checklist — MyKad, passport, and household registration papers
  • Building a personal folder system for easy retrieval by any family member

How the session runs

1

Opening conversation

Brief discussion of where each attendee currently stands with their records

2

Document walkthrough

Category by category review with sample documents and plain-language explanations

3

Checklist and folder setup

Each attendee completes a personal document checklist and receives an organising folder

4

Questions and gap review

Time set aside for questions about documents attendees are uncertain about

5

Next steps guidance

Clear notes on what to locate, update, or request before the next family review

Attendees leave with

A completed personal document checklist, a labelled organising folder, and a printed reference sheet explaining each document category in plain language.

Session 2

Family Conversation Planning Session

RM 850 per household ~90 minutes

A small-group session for households preparing to have a structured conversation across generations about retirement, household finances, and shared responsibilities. The session offers a conversation framework, suggested topics, and a printed workbook with prompts that families can use later in private.

The framework is drawn from community facilitation practice rather than counselling or any regulated discipline. Attendees receive the workbook and a follow-up email two weeks later with reminders. Suitable for two to six members of one family. Scheduling is by appointment.

What the session covers

  • A structured framework for raising retirement topics across generations without friction
  • Suggested conversation topics covering household records, property, shared responsibilities, and planning roles
  • A printed workbook with prompts the family can return to privately after the session
  • Guidance on how to divide record-keeping roles within the family unit

How the session runs

1

Introduction and framing

Setting the tone — a relaxed, practical conversation rather than a formal review

2

Workbook walkthrough

The facilitator guides the family through each section of the printed workbook

3

Conversation and reflection

Open time for the family to discuss topics in their own words, with light facilitation

4

Two-week follow-up

A follow-up email with reminders and suggestions for continuing the conversation at home

Attendees leave with

The printed family conversation workbook with completed prompts, and a follow-up email two weeks after the session with suggestions for next steps.

Programme 3

Quarterly Document Review Programme

RM 2,640 per year 4 visits

An ongoing programme for households that want help keeping their records current. Once per quarter, the team visits or hosts the household and reviews the folder of documents assembled in the initial workshop: statements are added, expired papers are noted, and the household's organising system is refined.

The programme is entirely organisational — it does not provide legal or financial advice and does not act on the household's behalf with any institution. Suitable for retired adults, family caretakers, and adult children supporting elderly relatives. Programme runs for one year with four scheduled visits.

What each visit covers

  • Adding new statements and correspondence received since the previous visit
  • Noting expired papers and flagging any documents that may need renewing
  • Refining the household's organising system based on what has worked and what has not
  • A brief review note after each visit summarising what was checked and what to follow up on

How the programme runs

1

Enrolment and scheduling

Four visit dates confirmed at the start of the year, at quarterly intervals

2

Visit and review

The team works through the household's folder, filing new items and noting any gaps

3

System refinement

Any changes to the organising structure are made during the visit itself

4

Post-visit summary note

A brief written note confirms what was reviewed and any items to attend to before the next visit

Suitable for

Retired adults, family caretakers, and adult children who support elderly relatives and want a regular, organised check on household records.

Standards we work to

Every session is run with these principles as a starting point, not an afterthought.

Independence from regulated services

No legal or financial advice is given in any session. We are an educational and organisational service, and we stay clearly within that scope.

Document confidentiality

Documents brought to sessions or shown during home visits are treated with care. We do not photograph, copy, or retain any household documents.

Adult learning principles

Sessions are shaped around what attendees already know, not designed to overwhelm. We explain at a pace that fits the room and welcome questions throughout.

No cross-selling or referrals

We do not recommend external service providers, financial products, or legal firms. Our sessions are entirely self-contained.

Feedback after each session

Attendees are invited to share written feedback after each session. We use this to refine our materials and approach on an ongoing basis.

Accessible printed materials

All printed materials use clear type and plain language. They are designed to be readable and useful without needing to refer back to the session itself.

Not sure which session to start with?

Most households begin with the Records Walkthrough and follow up with the Quarterly Review after the first year. If a family gathering is coming up, the Family Conversation session can be scheduled around that. Write to us and we will help you think through the right approach.
